02 / The start-up sequence

How commissioning works

From the initial information to individual functions, then to the automatic cycle. Each stage creates the basis for the next.

Checks and the start-up sequence are agreed for the conditions of each installation.

  1. Preparation

    Review electrical drawings, equipment, project structure, parameters and initial information.

  2. Signal checks

    Check sensors, actuators, limit switches, valves, feedback signals and electrical logic.

  3. Drives and communication

    Check frequency drives, PROFINET / PROFIBUS / Modbus / CAN and communication between components.

  4. Manual operation

    Check individual equipment functions and assemblies step by step.

  5. Automatic operation

    Set up sequences, interlocks, transitions and process logic.

  6. Optimization

    Adjust parameters, timing, operating logic and diagnostic messages.

  7. Handover to operation

    Final checks, backup, documentation and handover to the customer.

What commissioning includes

The installation is at the centre. Software, electrical equipment, drives and the operator interface need to work together.

Task
Develop a control system for automatic transport and packaging of chipboard bundles using the customer’s specification and drawings.
Work
PLC/HMI development, installation support, mechanism checks and commissioning of all operating modes.
Result
The customer accepted the line; automatic operation is stable, and documentation and operator instructions were handed over.

Task
Replace obsolete Mannesmann drives for which spare parts were no longer available.
Work
Adapt drawings and STEP 7, integrate and parameterize the new drives, and commission the crane on site.
Result
The crane was modernized and put into operation; provision was made for remote diagnostics.

1 yearof remote support

After commissioning

Start on site.
Continue support remotely.

After start-up, questions, diagnostics and agreed minor adjustments can be handled remotely where suitable access is available.

For installations programmed and commissioned by Poljakov Automation, one year of remote support is provided where suitable access is available. Scope and conditions follow the project offer; this does not mean unlimited extensions or a warranty for third-party hardware.

FAQ

Before the first start

Can programming and commissioning be part of one project?

Yes. The main approach is to take my own project engineering and PLC/HMI software through commissioning, automatic operation and customer handover.

What if some documentation is still missing?

We can start by discussing the current situation. Drawings, PLC/HMI projects, equipment data and the preferred start-up date help identify what still needs to be prepared.

Is staff instruction included?

During handover, I explain the system’s operation to operators and maintenance personnel. Instruction and documentation are included in the agreed project scope.

Is support available after start-up?

Yes, with suitable remote access. One year of support is provided for installations I program and commission; the project offer defines the scope and conditions.

Ready for the first start?

Commissioning is the moment a project has to become a real working system. If the equipment is ready to start or needs support through to stable automatic operation, simply describe the current situation.
